3 of Swords Revisited

Over the years, when the 3 of Swords comes up, almost instantaneously I hear, “Oh shit! Heartbreak!”

First is the influence, which can be a wave crashing into you or your scene. Your responsibility is the wonderful response. Do you sense or do something? So you simply stand strong, stand your ground, and discern the influence? It’s possible to let things just pass by. Be careful, though. Life is what passes you by when you’re too busy making plans to avoid the wave-smashes. Life is what passes you by when you’re too busy assuming the expectation of things you’ve been told rather than thinking about them for yourself. The 3 of Swords in Tarot is a wonderful example of this.

If being hard on yourself actually worked as constructive criticism, it would have worked by now. Right? That’s a misinterpretation of stick-to-it-iveness. You don’t need to stick in there regardless, unless, for you whatever it is has the heart of the matter in it. No need for pros and cons or good or bad in a situation. That’s a bunch of ‘there are facts, damn facts, and then there are statistics’ bs.

There is no need to avoid not quitting. Rather than quitting or not quitting, ask:

~ What’s workable?

~ Where’s the workability? Is there any?

~ No workability?, then pay it nevermind.

~ Workability? Nods to that. what do you do about it?

good = favoritism. bad = shaming behavior.

Neither are in others’ best interest, certainly not yours.

Instead, what treasures do you hide in ‘good’ and ‘bad.’

So, The 3 of Swords

  • mental refraction, distorted thoughts, taking care with yourself by moving slowly
  • cosmic grooves, eternal hope, inspiration
  • initial fruition of ideas, communication in motion

You are a Temple, inside and out. May you be and continue to become your own Temple inside and out as Tarot informs the intuition of your steps. Yup. that’s a long-form discipline of the ritual. It’s not a hassle or when will this end kind of thing. It can be Blisscipline, where the heart of the matter lives in the steps.

Always complete, never finished, lifelong.

3 of Swords Revisited

Over the years, when the 3 of Swords comes up, almost instantaneously, I hear, “Oh shit! Heartbreak!” ??? Now, how’s that? Swords are about air, intellect, thinking, communications. What’s with this heartbreak stuff? Yeah yeah, tradition and all. That’s what everyone teaches and all. It’s quite a lot like a person cutting the ends off the brisket before putting it in the oven because grandma did. Shaking my head. Grandma did it because her oven was too small back then.

Yup, That Heart is Big and Bold

Yup, that heart is big and bold in the 3 of Swords image, though to see it as heartbreak is much like banging your thumb with a hammer, when you have no hammer. This is a Swords card, not a Cup card. Why go straight to the heart with a Swords card? Especially, after the 2 may just have covered her heart to feed the heart of the matter up through the thoughts as a preamble support to develop into the 3 of Swords.

  • decision time, balanced opposites in ideas, upcoming decisions, mirrored thoughts, focusing to think and see in a new way
  • Cross the Both~And Sword-thoughts to vessel the heart and pump the heart of the matter up into the thoughts. Enjoy her mind-movie that she shows behind her of what’s playing within her.

From my perspective the first thing that comes to mind (Swords pun) is to aspirate your heart. Give it some air. Consciously give your heart the breathing room it needs.

Heck. Sure, a heart without breathing room leads to heartbreak, though the heart in this card has plenty of breathing room, actually the whole scene. It is not constrained at all. It’s connected by Swords to the head. 2 of the swords are giving it oxygen like a bubbler in an aquarium, and one exhausts out the top like a roof vent. That’s more than decent ventilation so the head doesn’t get too stuffy with thoughts that don’t pulse and pump with the heart of the matter. I don’t see anything near heartbreak there. I see the head in connection with the heart. I see the heart of the matter present in thoughts and the process of thinking. And, if the heart of the matter is not present, thoughts are as useless as fish scales for dinner.

Personally, to go with the 3 of Swords — I find judgment to be farcical as it it generated from bias and expectations. Justice? Heart weighed against a feather? Nods. That’s not that your heart weighs a pound or so to Ma’at. Justice weighing your heart against a feather is a question of whether your heart is bouyant enough to unweight the scale with a feather.

  • mental refraction, distorted thoughts, taking care with yourself by moving slowly

How do you actionably use the 3 of Swords to your benefit today?

  • sticking to the point, ideas cutting through, quickening, focusing thought to make your point sharply
  • decision time, balanced opposites in ideas that focus what is actually here, upcoming decisions, mirrored thoughts, focusing to think and see in a new way… the new way without expectation of what’s really present
  • The heart of the matter actionably alive in thoughts, head in healthy marriage with heart. Also, mental refraction, distorted thoughts, taking care with yourself by moving slowly
  • Balance of the 4 psychological functions: intuition, feeling, thinking, sensation. The self-cooling psychological fan. The more intensely the movement and interaction, the more intense of the self-cooling inner fan. Initial fruition of ideas, balanced communication in motion
  • the eye of the storm, the missing middle is teeny and also it is calm and red, residual fossil impressions. Initial, natural thought. Not chaos as that is a concept. This is he wonderfully natural mind. Nature knows no emotions, only weather. How’s your inner weather?
  • Full communication as the bones of your exchange. You have enough. Reaching for more may hurt or overload you. time to stop and work with a full plate of thoughts on hand.
  • sneaky, stealthy, hiding in plain sight, Shadow Hand. Where’s the 7th Sword? What is obvious, though may not be evident due to your blind spots of expectations?

I’ve posted about my Tarot in the Land of Mystereum: An Imagination Primer, Schiffer Publications 2011, in a lot of ways. I’ve done a Process of Sequencing Individuation Tarot Psychology synopsis with the Majors, and a 9-Part Tarot Birth Card Series. I’ve done a series of the Presence of the (insert Major card) series going through how in the Land of Mystereum each of the Majors visit and cameo in many of the Minors to bring lineage into the power of the Minors, give them higher octaves readily present without playing the implication game with things unseen. There’s been The Soul Seat Heartfelt Silverback Hierophant where instead of the Hierophant on a bad day, the stubborn and unbending traditionalist, the Hierophant is seated AS active wisdom, himself born AS a throne of life experience. There have been 10-Part Mystereum Tarot Moments short videos of the Pentacles to date which are all around 1 minute or less. I’m fascinated with how March can be expressed with depth in around 60 seconds. It’s like dialing in to Moira time, syncing with the internal rhythms, one’s own, personal mindful and heartfelt inner musical meter. I plan to continue the other 3 suits… uh hem, now 9 years later.

So, Today

Here are the Swords WITHOUT the perspective and bents of me describing them with words. Simply the card images here, so you can dive in and see for yourself. No tour guide theme. No intent, ahhh especially no intent from when I was creating and making them. They graduated from me. Now, they speak for themselves in the ways they’ve grow to. What do they say to you?

The 3 of Swords and Emotional Refraction

Everything comes together, all communications come together, in the heart. A twig put into water gets refracted, appears bent.  With the 3 of Swords, ask yourself, “What is sticking in my situation that APPEARS distorted?”

So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to debate this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. Big thumb up for this blog submit!”  (No URL preview available.  Go figure.)

And, isn’t that JUST like what is typically going on when we get the 3 of Swords?  Thoughts that wrap us around them to bend and distort our perspective much like that twig bending in water?

Yank the Refracted Twig

Yank the bent twig of emotional refraction!  Toss it!  Toss it to re-acclimate and your clear your thoughts running the inroads to your heart. Wash up on your shore after the storm in your heart has passed and you are treated to rest, after the mesquite thorn has been found and removed and salved.  Don’t buy in to the distorted twigs in your mind.  Be vain.  Preen them out before they stick you.  Much like the “compliment” I received above… If you click on bent twigs, emails with “sexdate” in the subject line are probably not far behind…  errr, take that any way you like, though, buying into bent twigs in your mind will only stick you in the heart… like clicking on almost convincing spam… if of course I had extra particulars to be Thnkx’d for.

Inner State Highways

All thoughtroads lead to the heart.  Please keep your Inner State Highways clean… and for Pete’s sake, if you drive slow or erraticly… by all means keep your bent twig out of the left lanes. Your other thoughts have places to go!  Thnkx U

Tarot Spaces Between Your Notes. Notes As Your Cards

There is the 4-charactered voice of the Universe.  A  U  M,  and then the Silence between them and all around and within them.  You will also see this as a whole world of an one identity of the All as OM.

There is also what I find to be a 4-charactered voice of Imagination.  Idea  Creativity  Intuition, and then the bridges of Psychic Synapse spaces between them that bring them into relationship with one another, and as well serve to emphasize each of their identities.  To enhance, to reinforce, to strengthen these identities, let’s look at the spaces between them.

Psychic Synapses Between Your Cards

Let’s pull 3 cards and look at the spaces between them.  This may enhance the way you merge cards together into the creative traffic in your Idea Solar System?  Wait!  What’s an Idea Solar System?  It is a concept in the Land of Mystereum dealing with the natural orbits of your ideas, how they weightlessly move in mind and into and as your work.   Look at each card as a snapshot of a whole world in motion.  Simply, look at each card as a verb and itself a whole place of creation, a sanctuary of Inner State Highways speaking from the relationships born of the spaces between the cards.

What do you discover to enhance your Tarot reading style with the spaces between the cards? How does this enhance and reinforce and strengthen your Idea Solar System? 

I have been doing what I call Turbo Readings for some time now.  It’s a great way to get a landscape level overview of your reading, and it is great to see others coming up with and playing with it on their own in Make A Sentence From The Cards exercises abounding recently.  I came up with the idea on my own, as I gather many others have as well when they begin to see the cards more immediately.  Be mindful of deceptive simplicity.  Simply because a reading is quick does not mean it does not have depth.  Some of the best readings are as clear as speaking with a friend, and Tarot is certainly a friend of mine.

Turbo Reading The Spaces Between Your Tarot Cards

I drew these 3 cards to step on the gas with this Space Between Exercise: 3 of Swords ~ 5 of Pentacles ~ 6 of Swords

First off, I will Turbo Read the cards themselves, then Turbo Read the spaces between them.  Look at the spaces between as bridges, as living and silent connective tissues.  The space between can also be a metaphor for your influence and presence going well beyond your spoken words.

Turbo Reading 3 of Swords, 5 of Pentacles, 6 of Swords.

Your emotional refraction/distortion is playing with your brightness that is missed yet in plain sight.  You have everything you need.  No need to reach for more.  Clearly communicate your emotions mindfully TO solidly lord over any trouble TO find the mindfulness present in the tools of your touch.  Is there simply something outside of you that you reach for that is really extraneous to what you need to see in your situation?

I will go so far as to put these 3 cards in an alchemical crucible with some rosemary and lavendar.  Heating them up together, the card they feel to indicate is a hesitant Devil XV card, an excess in the form of inhibitions.  Remember, inhibitions can enslave as easily as excesses.  Are inhibitions really an excess themselves, and excess of worry precluding action?

Turbo Reading the living, connective tissues of the spaces between (the cards)

Put a card’s width of space between the cards as you begin this part of the exercise.  Literally, make an invisi-card that IS the space between them.

3 of Swords TO 5 of Pentacles: TO, the bridge of the space between may equal, “Focus your thoughts to solidly see through pity or sorrow and see the established inner light of an idea, of yourself, in a situation.”

5 of Pentacles TO 6 of Swords: TO, the bridge of the space between may equal, “See through to the established brightness present to feel the sharp thoughts present in your touch.”

And then round the troops.  Marshall your forces with 6 of Swords TO 3 of Swords: TO, the bridge of the space between may equal, “Utilizing the sharp ideas in your grasp do you see where the irritating psychic splinter is to simply pull it out?  Pull it out like a bent twig in the water . . . that clears the water and of course is not really bent.”

Don’t text while you Tarot.  It’s dangerous. 😉

Best to this exercise and video doing a little whizbang windshield cleaning for you to enhance the focus of your view on the Inner State Highway of these cards.  What do YOU see and feel between these 3 cards?
