That is one of the best articles on the health issues with Navajos and other people who live in poor and impoverished areas that I have read. The Economist has an article in this week’s issue that mentions how the per capita infection and death rate from Covid-19 is the same in the USA as it is in Europe. But one thing that magazines like The Economist fails to mention is that the USA has a much more diverse population that most other countries with a large number of people at greater risk because of health issues related to race and economic conditions.

I agree. I was pleased when Mary Greer had her friend, Capt John Irving, put down his story. I lived in NM for 4 years and had been wondering about credible stories rather than sensationalized hearsay. Their plight needs no sensationalism to be hugely intense and tragic.

Many of the articles I’ve read have just been way off the mark. They are politicized and sensationalized and do no good for informing anyone on the issues people are dealing with on the Navajo Nation.

You have my robust agreement on that, Timothy. Glad I had the opportunity share the real and credible story.

Wow! I know the WWII Code Talker your friend referred to. Small world. He is the last living Code Talker remaining if I recall, so it must be the same one. Awesome! I also spent time working with many of the Navajo on a Bill Murray film many, many years ago. When we learned the film company had recorded one of their native songs in English, they allowed those of us who could sing to learn and sing it instead in Navajo, thanks to Bill Murray. It is a very hard dialect, so we wrote it phonetically and practiced the clicks. Thanks so much for sharing this!

      You’re welcome, Jolie!

Small world yes, though I wouldn’t want to paint it (Steven Wright). That is wonderful that you know the Code Talker in the article. He sounds like quite a pricelessly alive personality, quite the character from the article.

That’s so cool that Bill Murray facilitated your production team to learn and record one of their native songs in Navajo! Thanks for sharing that.
